Jimmy Page's 1960 Gibson Les Paul Custom, known as “Black Beauty”, is regarded as the most influential instrument of Page’s career - before it was tragically stolen in 1970. Featuring a Bigsby B7 Vibrato and a pair of Seymour Duncan humbuckers (bridge & neck), Page fitted the guitar with three 2-way on/off switches in place of the original 3-way, so he could choose any combination of pickups he wanted. But, something unexpected happened… the original Gibson humbucker was not wired correctly 'in-phase' with the newly installed Seymour Duncans and as a result, Jimmy accidently found what would become his signature tone, which he would later build into his “No.1” and “No.2” Les Pauls - deliberately this time!
