Peter Frampton had been struggling to find a guitar that he really loved while cutting his teeth in 'Humble Pie' back in 1970 but at a small gig, an audience member asked him to try out a Les Paul that he had 'modified' and from that night - Frampton fell in love. The Gibson Les Paul, that had been fitted with an extra humbucker in the mid-position to emulate the Les Paul Custom 3-pickup, was uniquely wired featuring the original dual pickup 3-way switch arrangement - with master volume and tone but the new mid-position pickup controlled by its own individual volume and tone! In 1980 the guitar went down in a cargo plane crash and was lost… until it was reunited with Frampton after 40 years!
